History of MJ.

Man Mohan Jaggi was born in the rural village of Kote Sarang, India, a village of several hundred people. Mr. Jaggi's father, the village's only school teacher, encouraged his son to attain an education. "Had he not been a school teacher," said Mr. Jaggi, "I doubt very seriously that I would have attended school." Mr. Jaggi not only attended school, but went on to receive a government scholarship to study engineering at India's Punjab University. He graduated from Punjab University in 1959 and worked for the Indian government for seven years as a civil engineer. At the end of his government tenure, Mr. Jaggi made his way to the United States to "seek a better life" for his growing family. With his wife and children still in India, Mr. Jaggi enrolled in Manhattan College on a work study program, working part-time jobs to pay for educational expenses and saving to bring his family to the United States.

1969. Mr. Jaggi earned his master's degree in sanitary engineering. He took a job with an engineering firm in New York City, where he worked for 10 years. That job not only enabled him to bring his family to the United States, but it also sent him to New York's Capital Region to work on a number of municipal sewer treatment plant projects. Ten years later, he and his family made southern Saratoga County their permanent home.

1979. Man Mohan Jaggi founded M.J. Engineering, P.C. (MJ). At the time, MJ was a two-person firm offering civil engineering services out of a home office above his garage. Over the years, the firm steadily expanded its employee base and services and, as a result, took on more and larger clients. In 1992, Mr. Jaggi moved the firm to its present-day headquarters on Crescent Road in Clifton Park, New York.

1996. MJ added land surveying services to its offerings, and the company's name officially changed to M.J. Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C. Today, MJ's survey group totals 28 surveyors, high-definition scanning technicians and office technicians.

Until this time, MJ's work focused largely on projects for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and some private work. In 2004, however, MJ attained 8(a)BD/SDB certified Minority/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (M/DBE) certification, enabling it to compete nationwide and win federal contracts.

Today, MJ is a 90-person, full-service firm with six offices throughout New York State, offering not only civil engineering, but also structural and environmental engineering, architecture, construction inspection, landscape architecture, land surveying and 3D laser scanning. Its client list includes the NYSDOT, the New York State Thruway Authority, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and dozens of private clients and municipalities throughout the northeast. In addition, MJ has forged successful working relationships with contractors and subcontractors nationwide. More than three decades and hundreds of successfully completed projects have passed since Mr. Jaggi founded MJ. But then, as now, MJ's success comes from its dedicated and talented staff and its reputation for efficient, effective solutions to problems large and small. "I always wanted to be a successful business owner," Jaggi said, "but I want people to look back on me for being trustworthy and ethical, taking care of my employees and improving the world we live in."
