Michael Pianka, GISP to Present on Mobile Mapping and GIS at NYGeoCon

MJ's Michael Pianka, GISP will be presenting a session at NYGeoCon on Mobile LiDAR - Revolutionized 3D Data Collection. This presentation will describe how GIS and mobile 3D LiDAR scanning are being used in conjunction to revolutionize the capture of accurate 3D data in a process known as mobile mapping.

Mobile mapping represents the future of field data collection as it combines progressive LiDAR and GPS technologies capable of capturing survey-accuracy 3D location data on moving platforms such as automobiles, ATV's, and watercrafts.

The strength of mobile mapping is its ability to quickly and efficiently capture detailed location data over large land tracts and miles of roadway for asset inventories, streetscape visualizations, topographic mapping, and as-built documentation.

The contribution of GIS and CAD is to manage, analyze, and extract features from the resulting "big data" holdings, which can be hundreds of gigabytes in size. This big data is distilled down into data products and deliverables including point clouds, 3D models, raster imagery, GIS databases, and CAD drawings to suit the needs of engineering, planning, and architectural end-users”

The session is this Friday, October 30th at 10:30am. NYGeoCon is being held at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Albany from October 28-30th. Single day tickets and full conference registrations are still available:

Mr. Pianka serves as the geospatial services technical lead at MJ. He is experienced in GIS, survey, 3D laser scanning and planning. Mr. Pianka's responsibilities include spatial analysis, map production, webmap development, LiDAR feature extraction and data processing, enterprise GIS management, and incorporating GIS into existing workflows to improve the firm's overall productivity. He is experienced in the use of the ArcGIS suite, MicroStation suite, AutoCAD, and LiDAR processing software. Mr. Pianka is also proficient in Trimble RTK and static GPS data collection.
