MJ Participates in Capital District Future City Competition

MJ was proud to return as both a sponsor and to judge that 25th Annual Capital District Future City Competition! The Capital District Future City Competition is an educational program for middle school students to use their creative and innovative imaginations to design a city of the future. The students work with their teachers and an engineer-volunteer mentor from the community to design and build the city. The students apply math, science, engineering and technology, as well as enhance their writing and presentation skills, through this project.

The 2016-2017 regional competition was held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Proctors Theater in Schenectady. MJ's Becky Cahill, Laura Fulford, Carly DeThomasis and Ame Bucher volunteered as competition judges for team essays, 3D models and presentations. MJ sponsored the award for "Most Innovative Use of Green Space for a Community."

Every year, the Future City Competition introduces a theme, with an engineering problem that students are asked to solve. This year’s theme was “The Power of Public Space”. Students were asked to design innovative, multi-use public spaces that serves a city’s diverse population.
